As a leader, you want your best employees to stick around for the long haul. But what if you want to do the opposite? What if you want to ensure that your top performers will quit their jobs as soon as possible? Here are five foolproof strategies for driving your best employees away:

  1. Criticize everything they do. No matter what your employee does, find a way to criticize it. Make them feel like they can’t do anything right, no matter how hard they try. This will quickly sap their motivation and make them question why they’re even working for you in the first place.
  2. Blame everything on them. Whenever something goes wrong in the company, make sure your employees know that it’s all their fault. Even if it’s clearly a problem with your management style or your own decision-making, make sure your employees take the blame. This will make them feel unappreciated and undervalued.
  3. Never appreciate them. If an employee does something outstanding, don’t bother appreciating them. Act like it’s no big deal, or worse, act like you were the one who did all the work. Never acknowledge their hard work or achievements, and they’ll quickly feel like they’re spinning their wheels.
  4. Don’t bother training them. Why bother investing in training or development for your employees when you can just keep them in…
